Professor Edem Kwasi BakahProfessor Edem Kwasi Bakah, as President, is both the academic leader and Chief Executive of the University College. He reports to the University College’s Council and is responsible for the delivery of the Strategic Plan and the success of the University College. He was appointed President on 1st February 2021, having held senior leadership and academic positions at the University of Cape Coast.

Professor Bakah is a graduate of University of Cape Coast where he studied French, English and Ewe for his B.Ed. (2000), followed by MPhil in Linguistics and Didactics (2004). He obtained a second MPhil (2007) and PhD (2010) from the Université de Strasbourg in France in Linguistics and Didactics with the assistance of a French Government Scholarship. Edem’s research expertise is in Discourse Analysis in French, Academic Writing, Teaching and Learning of French as a Foreign Language and Language for Specific Purposes.

Professor Bakah was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of French, University of Cape Coast after over sixteen (16) years’ experience of teaching, research, and administration in Higher Education. During this period, he had supervised over thirty (30) masters and doctoral students and served on many boards/committees including the Governing Council of the University. He has been a mentor to a number of young academics in French and other related subject areas.

Professor Bakah had published extensively and served as external examiner for many tertiary institutions including University of Education, Winneba, University of Ghana, Legon and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. He was also involved with reviewing academic programmes for Ghana National Accreditation Board and National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) as well as developing Curriculum Strand for Transforming Teaching, Education and Learning (T-TEL) for Colleges of Education.

Professor Bakah was the pillar of the flagship scientific event at the Faculty of Arts (UCC) dubbed UCC Faculty Arts Colloquia. Previously, he had served as National Coordinator for Inter-University Conference on Doctoral Studies in French and Chairperson of the Management Committee of Alliance Française, Cape Coast. He also played active role in developing and strengthening collaboration between universities in the West African sub-region and beyond.

Professor Bakah is a baptized member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana and belongs to a number of professional and scholarly associations including the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and Ghana Association of French Teachers (GAFT).

Professor Bakah and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Marie Afua Baah Bakah, a Senior Lecturer at the UNESCO Category II Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, University of Cape Coast are blessed with five children, four of whom are quadruplets, namely Eyram, Miakafui, Dudzi, Woewoe, and Akpe.

At his leisure times, Professor Bakah enjoys cooking, babysitting, surfing the internet and watching movies.
