Mr. George Kwaku Debrie (Togbe Dogbega V), a very seasoned university administrator is the newly appointed Registrar of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College, Ho in the Volta Region of the Republic of Ghana. He takes office from 1st July, 2022.

Mr. Debrie, a native of Vakpo in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region, Ghana had his pre-university education at Jasikan E. P. Primary School (1958 – 1963), Akpafu Odomi Local Authority Middle School (1963 – 1965), Kpedze Secondary School (1965 – 1966) and Kpando Secondary School (1966 – 1972).   

Mr. George Kwaku Debrie (Togbe Dogbega V) continued his formal education at the University of Ghana, Legon where he obtained Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in English with Study of Religions (Christian) in 1975. He also obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Communication from the School of Communication Studies, University of Ghana, Legon and a Certificate in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK in 1980 and 1997 respectively.  

After teaching as his National Service, he was employed as an Assistant Information Officer in the Information Services Department from 1976 to 1979. He continued to engage in teaching between 1980 and 1985. From 1986 to 1995, Mr. George Kwaku Debrie (Togbe Dogbega V) served as a Public Relations Officer at Consumer Credit Limited, a credit finance company. He then proceeded to the Ghana Agro-Foods Company (GAFCO) as a Senior Sales Officer and Depot Manager in charge of Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions from 1996 to 1997.

In 1998, the University for Development Studies (UDS), Tamale, employed Mr. George Kwaku Debrie (Togbe Dogbega V) as the Principal Administrative Assistant in charge of its University Relations Office (URO). After serving in that position for one year, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Registrar and he remained as the Head of the URO until 2009, during which period he was again promoted to the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar. Between 2009 and 2011, he was the Head of General Administration (GA) and served as Head of Human Resource (HR) from 2011 to 2012. He was again promoted to the rank of Deputy Registrar in 2013, and placed as the Head of the Governing Council Secretariat, a position he held until December 2021.

During his Twenty-three (23) years engagement at the UDS, he served as secretary and recorder to many Committees and Boards including Search Committee for Appointment of Vice Chancellor of UDS in 2015 and Search Committee for the Appointment of Registrar in 2012 and 2021. Mr. Debrie was also a Board Member of the UDS Accra Guest House and the UDS International Conference Centre from 2013 to 2016. He also attended a number of seminars and training workshops, including the Management of Higher Institutions Seminar organised by the Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI) in Nahalal, Israel.

Mr. George Kwaku Debrie (Togbe Dogbega V) is a Jerusalem Pilgrim (JP) and an active member and lay Preacher in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana. He is the “Agbotagbala” of Vakpo Todzi in the Vakpo Traditional Area in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region. He is married with five children.
