Ladies and Gentlemen

I deem it a great honour to be invited to this special event. I bring you warm and fraternal greetings from the Evangelical Presbyterian University College, the Premier University in the Volta Region.

As a University College, we have a mandate to produce the needed manpower for the development of our nation and the world. This we do through relevant programmes and courses as well as our community engagement activities. Aside Education programmes, we also offer programmes in Business, Social Sciences, Languages and Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Our programmes are run in very flexible modes; we have the weekend and regular options.

As you are aware, the frontiers of knowledge are expanding very fast and you can’t afford to be left behind. I therefore urge you to take advantage of the programmes EPUC offers to upgrade yourselves and be responsive to the needs of your pupils and students.

Stay together and speak with one voice. You are the people on the ground, so let the leadership of GNAT know the realities there and l urge leadership to convey the realities to Government without fear and favour.

As teachers, we also need to be professional in everything we do; let’s be abreast with current issues in education and give the association a new look in terms of our attitudes and facilities.

The slogan of GNAT says “We live to teach”. This is a huge responsibility we have because we lay the foundation of the country by preparing the kids to be future leaders. If things are not right in the country today, it is because, partially, we have contributed to it. What do we teach the children at school? What are the values we are imparting to them? Do we demonstrate Punctuality, Honesty, Discipline, Justice, Fairness and Hard Work? Do we allow them or help them to cheat in the examination halls or we buy examination questions for them?

On this note Mr. Chairman, we at EPUC are ready to support members of GNAT to upgrade their skills; we encourage them to enroll on our programmes.

We wish you a successful conference.
Thank you and God bless you.
