Programme Philosophy and Objectives:

The programme offers a four-year BA Degree in Corporate Secretaryship and Management. Navigating the complex terrain of modern corporate organizations demands the services of the corporate secretary who is responsible for ensuring that accurate and sufficient documentation exists for effective functioning of a corporate entity. The practice of corporate secretaryship extends to strategic and functional contexts, advising Board, leading teams in secretarial best practices, ensuring compliance with law and regulation, and establishing efficient internal communication of Board decisions and external reporting.

The Corporate Secretaryshipand Management Programme will prepare students to become secretaries of Companies listed on the stock exchanges, companies run by councils, boards or other corporate organizations, other multi nationals and non-profit organizations.

Emphasizes shall be laid on the development of practical language skills especially in French and English, taking into account the geopolitical position of Ghana in West African Sub-region. Pertinent advantage will be taken of the development of Information Technology Skills as a tool in the hands of the modern Secretary.

The prograrmme is also aimed at inviting Senior Managers and Company Secretaries from places in order to interact with the University College students and encourage the exchange of ideas between the academic and the business communities in Ghana.

The programme will also prepare students to pursue other related courses which will lead to exempting them from writing some professional examinations related to corporate secretaryship and management. For example, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

At the end of the programme, students will be able to:

  • Understand the scope, role and functions of corporate secretaryship and management and apply them within the employing or client organisation;
  • Understand the law and the best practice in meetings, apply them in the  secretaryship function, and ensure corporate compliance;
  • Ensure effective communication and dissemination of information to and from the Board, both internally and externally, for the optimum benefit of the             organisation and its needs;
  • Be aware of the ongoing responsibilities of the Secretary as an independent professional practitioner within the organisation, and be responsible for continuing personnel development within the orgnisation in which he or she may be employed;
  • Be aware of, and be responsible for, continuing self-development in corporate secretaryship as a professional practitioner;
  • Provide bi-lingual secretaryship services.

Admission Requirements
To qualify for the Programme, candidates must:
Level 100

  • possess five credit passes at ‘O’ Level including English and Mathematics in Business/Arts subjects plus two/ three passes at ‘A’ Level excluding General Paper of which one should be at least grade D.
  • be SSSCE/WASSCE holder with passes in six subjects; three core subjects – English, Mathematics and Social Studies/Integrated Science, plus      three Elective Subjects in Business/General Arts. SSSCE: aggregate 24 or better; grade E will not be accepted. WASSCE:     Aggregate 36 or better; grades D7 and E8 not accepted.
  • be mature candidate aged 25 years and above with at least two years relevant work experience and must have passed the E. P. University College Placement Examinations.
  • Five passes in GBCE plus three passes in ABCE
  • DBS with credit passes in English and Mathematics at SSSCE/WASSCE

Level 200

  • Pass in Higher National Diploma (HND).
  • Diploma in Basic Education
  • Professional Certificate/Diploma
  • Be Stenographer Secretaries Grade 2 or higher with passes in English and Mathematics at SSSCE/WASSCE or credit passes in English and Mathematics

Level 300

  • Relevant HND holders with 2nd Class Lower and better or must have other relevant Diplomas from recognized Universities/Institutions or possess relevant Professional Certificate eg. ICSA.

Foreign Students
Foreign students with qualifications equivalent to those mentioned above will be considered for admission at the appropriate level.  However, applicants from Francophone and other non-English speaking countries must attach to their applications evidence of Proficiency in English. All foreign certificates shall be referred to National Accreditation Board for determination of equivalence.
